Netroots Nation will be happening in just a few short days, and four members of the SSP crew will be there: Publisher DavidNYC, Southern Bureau Chief Trent Thompson, tech guru Ben, and myself. On Thursday morning, we’ll be chilling at the state level blogger caucus. If you’re at the convention, please drop by and say hello!
On another note, the filing deadline for federal candidates in Louisiana passed at 5pm today, and it looks like we’ve come up empty-handed in the 5th CD, where the DCCC was trying up until the wire to score a candidate to take on Rodney Alexander. Well, you can’t win ’em all.
And while state Rep. Michael Jackson moonwalked himself into the 6th CD race as an independent, rumored spoiler candidate Lydia Jackson, a Democratic state senator from Shreveport, decided not to file for the open seat race in the 4th CD — as an independent or otherwise.
It provides a reason for endless Michael Jackson puns from now until November.
Amazing that Republicans didn’t even bother to field a candidate in this R+5 district. Melancon has seemingly made this a safe seat after initially winning by just 500 votes in 2004.

Says Christine Jennings filed, and that she only raised about 2,000 dollars or so in 3 months. That doesn’t make sense. Chris Jennings(?) and Christine Jennings both filed, but tose numbers don’t look right. (No fundraising) and I know I have the dates right. Is there a third committee that would look like hers that I’m missing? Because I think the FEC screwed up, but I’m not really sure if they did anything wrong.
“Chris Jennings” and “Christine Jennings” both filed reports for 04/01/08-06/30/08. Both looked like inactive candidates because of no CTD and nothing raised. http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-b…
Just thought I’d mention that former Bush White House Press Secretary died at 53 today from cancer. Not a pleasant way to go. I didn’t agree with his politics but respected him nevertheless. Best wishes to his family.

Not her again. Uggg… why won’t she just go away already? Doesn’t she have a police officer to attack somewhere?

According to the DLCC website Republican State Rep. Jeff Wood has filed as an independent. The story says that it looks like no republican challenger will emerge and Wood will caucus with the Dems if he wins. Republicans have a very slim majority in that chamber and it’s looking like a flip come November.
